আজ বৃহস্পতিবার শুভ বুদ্ধপূর্ণিমা। এই দিনে মহান বুদ্ধ জন্মগ্রহণ করেন ও মহানির্বাণপ্রাপ্ত হন। দুই হাজার ৪৭২ বছর আগে নেপালের তরাই অঞ্চলের লুম্বিনীকাননে এক ছায়া সুশীতল শালবৃক্ষের নিচে বুদ্ধ বুদ্ধাঙ্কুর রূপে পৃথিবীতে আবির্ভূত হন। ২৯ বছর বয়সে তিনি সংসার ত্যাগ করে গভীর ধ্যানে মনোনিবেশ করেন গয়ায় বোধিবৃক্ষতলে। লাভ করেন দিব্যজ্ঞান। আবির্ভূত হন মহান বুদ্ধরূপে।
